There are a few bands out there called The Double U, which possibly says something about the desperation faced by people coming up with band names these days. This particular Double U is the brainchild of Matt Hall and Alex Behr, who started the band in San Francisco in 1993 with drummer Gary Held.

Around the turn of the millennium the band reconfigured, adding singer/songwriter Linda Hagood (Smack Dab) and drummer Chris Holden. In 2004 Matt & Alex moved to Portland, Oregon and began playing and recording with drummer Geoff Soule (Fuck).

Hibou Mécanique (translation: Mechanical Owl) is the fifth recording by this unusually unique group. These fourteen songs make cozy bedfellows with those of Animal Collective, Deerhoof, and Thinking Fellers Union Local 282.
